Forum: forums Subject: Admin: Why are my filenames being altered?

My uploaded file has had its filename changed by IA's server software.

The original was: AligatorShow-000-DragonLove.mp3
It was changed to: aligatorshow000dragonlove.mp3

As you can see, the dashes were dropped and the upper case letters changed to lower case.

The Internet Archive FAQ states:
"Support for Filenames is limited to pretty basic ASCII characters, like A-Z a-z 0-9 _ -"

I've looked at some other podcast collections here on Internet Archive, and many of their filenames do have upper and lower case lettering, as well as underscores -- not sure about dashes; however the IA document referenced above specifically includes the dash as a legal character.

So, why have the changes been made to my original filename?

By the way, I uploaded through OurMedia. Could they be doing the alterations?

try a test through the archive-side Upload > Share buttons and mark the item as a test. see if it's different that way.

Okay, that worked -- this time the filename was saved at IA correctly. Thanks for the input. I guess somehow OurMedia is altering the filenames. I uploaded two through them, by the way, both of which were altered.
